Juniors

At Cambridge Canoe Club we have a growing Junior section for paddlers ages 8 – 14. Through the Kids Club and Courses we cater for all young paddlers from those who have never seen a kayak before right through to those who are already experienced paddlers. We look to make paddling fun whilst providing the opportunity to try out multiple disciplines – from flat water paddling, white water paddling and open boating right through to racing.

So please do click through the following links to find out more about what we have to offer and we look forward to seeing you on the water!
Those under 8 may paddle in an open canoe or a tandem kayak with a parent, until they can sign up for a Starter course. 14s and over can choose a beginners course.

If you have any questions about any of the information please do get in touch.

Club Trips

The Club is happy to see junior members joining in club trips away from Cambridge.  Normally they are accompanied by a parent, who might be a paddler or a non-paddler. Club coaches take responsibility for the junior whilst 'on the water' and parents resume responsibility outside of the canoeing activity. Let the tip organiser know the ages and standard of paddling of any junior members when booking on a trip. The trip organiser can advise on the suitability of a particular trip, and will then check that there are suitably experienced coaches to supervise any juniors.  The club cannot guarantee that it will be possible to take juniors on a particular trip.

In the event that a parent is not able to accompany a junior member on a trip and another adult is willing to take responsibility for them, then a Responsible Adult Form must be completed and signed by both a parent and the responsible adult prior to the trip. The adult must take responsibility for the junior when 'off the water'. This is an arrangement between the parents and the responsible adult, but the club must be satisfied that a suitable arrangement is in place. The form must be delivered to the trip organiser before the date of the trip.

The regular club trip to the river Wye (in the Forest of Dean) is a great first trip for families that do camping. There's also lots to do in the area for family members that don't paddle. It's normally one of the bank holiday weekends in May. Reserve it in your diary for next May now!
