British Canoeing Two Star Award (British Canoeing Two Star Course details)

You may be asked to attend a two-hour pre-assessment session before booking for the Two Star Course if the coach running the courses has not paddled with you recently.

If you have passed a Paddlesport One Star Award or Paddlesport Passport Award and can confidently paddle and manoeuvre two different types of boat (such as open canoe, kayak or racing kayak), then this course will enable you to take your paddling skills to the next level, developing both kayaking and open canoe skills. It is important to note that a Two Star course is a big jump from the One Star, so you will need to have significantly developed your confidence and skills since undertaking a beginner’s course. For this reason we will assess your skills and let you know if you are ready for the Two Star Course. If you are not quite ready, we recommend you take part in as many paddling activities as possible to build your skills and confidence.

The Two Star course lasts for 12 hours (either as six 2-hour evening sessions or longer weekend sessions) and covers both kayak and canoe techniques, including solo and tandem canoe. The Two Star Course is aimed at those aged 14 and above. If you are under the age of 14 years we recommend that you consider the Paddlepower Discover Award British Canoeing Paddlepower Awards.

Please ensure that you wear lightweight thermal clothing or wetsuits and lightweight shoes (preferably slip-on). All other equipment is provided.

All participants must be able to swim 25 meters wearing a buoyancy aid.
