The Club is always keen to welcome both qualified coaches and experienced volunteers to help run the large number of courses we have planned over the summer.
Any competent paddler can assist on courses, however we do require certain qualifications for running courses, or for those positions with more responsibility:
Possessing the new 2* award and completing Foundation Safety and Rescue Training are preferred for helpers, as is having a current first aid certificate. (In any case, these are pre-requisites for the most common coaching qualifications).
A coach training course is the next step, plus plenty of supervised experience coaching beginners alongside our qualified lead coaches.
The Club is happy to assist with the funding of any courses leading to a coaching qualification, assuming you help out on a fairly regular basis. Please contact the Coaching Officer at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for further details.
All our coaches and regular helpers must read and sign the club's Child Protection Policy document, and as we follow BCU guidelines, some of our qualified coaches/regular helpers will need a DBS (was CRB) check.
