The Club is always keen to welcome both qualified coaches and experienced volunteers to help run the large number of courses we have planned over the summer.  Any competent paddler can assist on courses, however we do require current and up to date British Canoeing coaching qualifications for leading courses.

If it's your first step into coaching then we can give you supervised experience coaching beginners alongside our qualified lead coaches.  A coach training course is the next step, and we often run these at the club too. There are no longer any prerequisite personal performance awards (such as the old Star awards) to staring an Instructor or Coaching award.

Foundation Safety and Rescue Training is still needed to be fully qualified and First Aid is preferred. Again the club helps run these skills course but you can always help yourself and get yourself trained.

The Club is happy to assist with the funding of any courses leading to a coaching qualification, if you agree to help out on a fairly regular basis. All our coaches and regular helpers must read and sign the club's Child Protection Policy document, and as we follow BCU guidelines, some of our qualified coaches/regular helpers will need a DBS (was CRB) check.
