The Cambridge Essex Winter Series Race
The Cambridge Essex Winter Series Race will be held on Sunday 27th Nov 2011.
Normal arrangements apply (http://www.freewebs.com/essexcanoeassoc/winser.html):
book in from 10-11.30, briefing 11.30, races start at 12, just upstream of
the Clubhouse.
Directions:
From the M11, take the A603 (exit 12) into Cambridge. This becomes Barton
Road. Where the Barton Road turns sharp left at some traffic lights to
become Newnham Road, continue straight on down a small service road with
speed bumps. There's a free car park at the end. The club house is about
100 yards away on the main river bank. Cross a small drainage channel to
get there, then turn left at the main river.
The usual prizes and food/drink will be provided.

A reminder about Weil's disease
A few weeks ago, there were reports in the media about a case of Weil's disease on the River Cam. While this suspected case turned out not actually to be Weil's disease, it is nonetheless a timely reminder of the potential risk incurred by being in or around freshwater. Please look after yourself by ensuring you wash after coming off the river, cover all cuts and try to avoid drinking river water. Heavy rain following dry weather can increase the risk of Weil's disease by washing the bacterial organisms responsible (Leptospira icterohaemorrhagiae found in rat urine) into the river. For more information on Weil's disease and symptoms to look out for, see page 3 of the July 2010 Newsletter.
Remember, Weil's disease is very rare but the simple precaution of washing after your paddle will prevent infection from this and other bugs.
Enjoy your time on the water.
